Monte Dourado is a brilliant, safe environment and I would definitely recommend it. Monte Dourado is slightly out of the 'centre' of the town-but please do not hesitate because of this; a 5-10min walk (depending on where you stay within the resort) will bring you down to A'Vela on Rua do Barranco. The apartments we stayed in where clean and comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. OK so the hill is a little steep, but I prefer this to the million steps you walk up to get to Colina Branca Townhouses. There isn't a play park etc. for children, but I'm sure with the pool they'd be fine. Great for walking along to Casa das Palmerias Restaurant. Also there is a little supermarket not far either. And tennis courts too!
